Japanese-born pianist Miki Yamanaka has called New York City home since 2012, establishing herself as one of the leading personalities of her generation. Critics praise her "light, expressive touch and solidly crafted, mainstream approach," while audiences delight in both her playing and vibrant personality.

Yamanaka has gained international recognition through her albums as a leader, most notably "Chance" (Cellar Music) featuring her NYC rhythm section of Tyrone Allen and Jimmy Macbride. She has emerged as a leader of the New York scene via residencies at West Village clubs Smalls and Mezzrow. During the pandemic, she developed "Miki's Mood," a successful weekly live-streaming concert series showcasing NYC talent and her vast knowledge of jazz standards.

As a sideman, she's worked with Antonio Hart, the Harish Raghavan Quintet, and The Mingus Big Band. Mentor Larry Goldings praised her comping abilities, while Downbeat magazine has repeatedly awarded her albums high marks. Known for her infectious smile and gregarious nature, Miki proudly represents her heritage by wearing kimonos during performances worldwide.
